Can I become a member? Any SLU student is welcome to be a member of SLU Habitat for Humanity. Members make a commitment to come to as many meetings as possible and offer time to volunteer on builds, at the ReStore, or with fundraising events. What is the time commitment? Our weekly meetings last no more than 1 hour each week. Outside of meetings, members volunteer in a number of ways, and these events can last from 1 to 8 hours. If you can't attend every weekly meeting and you are only available to volunteer for a few events, we understand. How to I join? Joining is simple - show up! Stop by one of our meetings at any time during the year and introduce yourself to our E-board. We will tell you more about the club and place your email address on our email list. We'll sign you up for a t-shirt, and you'll be on your way to helping to rid the world of substandard housing and having a great time doing it! Can my volunteer hours with Habitat count towards other service requirements? Certainly! We do not have a service hour requirement, so you may use your hours that you serve with Habitat for other clubs or service learning classes. Are there leadership opportunities? Yes! We have AVP's - Assistant Vice Presidents - which are a great way to see how the club is run. You can also run for a position the Executive Board as early as the spring of your freshmen year. Check out the Leadership page for more information. |
